WHAT LEADERSHIP MEANS
Leadership, to me, revolves around an ability to influence & impact others to achieve a common goal and/or purpose. It requires understanding and advocating for others, finding and living in your purpose, and empowering others to be their best individual selves.
VALUE IN LEADERSHIP
There is IMMENSE value in learning leadership while in college, as it is a skill that will serve you and others in every role you take in the future. Leadership, to me, revolves around an ability to influence & impact others to achieve a common goal and/or purpose. Therefore, it is crucial to learn how to support others, advocate for yourself and peers, as well as motivate others to be successful for the greater good. I always hear the phrase, "Someone is waiting on you," and I believe it to be true. That is the value of leadership, and there is no better time to develop your style than now.
WORDS OF WISDOM TO TXST
Find spaces where you can lean into your own un-comfortability and stretch yourself, as those are the greatest places of growth. There is no development in comfort, and for leadership styles and skills to grow, I believe it is of the utmost importance to place yourself in challenging situations, lean into the discomfort, ask for help, and continue to grow better and better each day.
"Anything I do, I do it well" - Jeramaine Cole (J. Cole)
WHAT GUIDES YOU
In the words of the GREAT poet Jermaine Cole, "Anything I do, I do it well." This sentiment drives me to present excellence in everything I do, and to bring my best because people deserve my all. Therefore, if it is a project at work, a racial justice training, or a keynote at graduation, if I commit to it then I need to bring excellence with me.
